Kevin Doyle, GCSAA
Whether good or bad, we find ourselves working in a relationship business. Many of us didn’t sign up for the career with the knowledge that we would need to manage turf with the same vigor as personal interactions, but alas, here we are. I don’t want to focus on turf, or even people — one of my favorite topics. I want to ask how you balance the one thing that we all rely on whether you are a superintendent or in sales. Matt has been working at the resort for 18 years and has been heavily involved in making the golf at Turning Stone what it is today. With a team that reaches more than 80 members during the peak season, Matt is in charge of overseeing the maintenance, care, and growth of the courses, as well as the overall landscaping and maintenance for the entire resort.
Mis to join Superintendent Association as Chapter Administrator
New York - February 5, 2020: The Golf Course Superintendents Association of New York (GCSA of New York) is proud to welcome Suzanne Mis as Chapter Administrator.
Mis offers the members of the GCSA of New York years of financial experience and overall golf industry knowledge. Since 1996, she has been instrumental in the financial oversight of a private Country Club in Western New York.
Upon receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Canisius College, Mis spent two years in public accounting at Ernst & Whinney, where she earned her CPA license before moving on into the external reporting department at Goldome Bank. Suzanne worked with a team that was responsible for all press release information and annual reporting for the newly formed publicly traded bank. From there, Suzanne worked for three years as an accountant at James J. Batt and Associates. For the past 23 years, Mis has managed the accounting office at Brookfield Country Club in Clarence, N.Y., as controller. Beyond her financial expertise, Mis has negotiated operating leases and utility contracts. She worked with department heads in the Food and Beverage, Pro Shop and Golf Course maintenance departments to develop policies and procedures to ensure the operations of the Club ran smoothly and efficiently. Mis took an active involvement in the set up and implementation of multiple computer platforms used throughout the Club which was extremely beneficial on the business side and instrumental in tracking membership changes and adjustments. Outside of work, Suzanne is married to Adam, a golf course superintendent at Brookfield Country Club and has three children. She is a trained biblical counselor and legal mediator and she is passionate about educating people about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Brian Conn, CGCS, Co-Chair of the Consolidation Committee is thrilled, “We are so excited that Suzanne has joined our team. Her enthusiasm and knowledge of the business will strengthen our organization and ensure the smooth day to day running of the new chapter. We look forward to a very successful relationship.”
The GCSA of New York is dedicated to serving its members, promoting the profession, and advancing the art and science of golf course management.
